Late in the first quarter, the Buckeyes struck on a 58-yard pass from QB Craig Krenzel to WR Michael Jenkins to set up a 1st and goal. Early in the fourth quarter, Orton completed passes on 4 consecutive plays to WR Taylor Stubblefield to move Purdue 60 yards to a first and goal situation.

Considering the combination of offense, defense, and special team talent, the 2003 Purdue Boilermakers were arguably Joe Tiller's best overall team in his tenure at Purdue, having concluded a highly successful campaign with a 9–4 record.
