I don’t have anything made by Athlon, but I just bought my second Vortex optic and I am extremely happy with both the quality of the products, and the customer service. It has a bigger field of view at the same magnifications, better sharpness, and a better eye-box. I have not checked where the Vortex line starts using etched glass, but you need to remember that if your looking into buying one. it is a decent scope for the money in my opinion. Back to back glass quality of the Diamondback tac and Argos are pretty similar. If you're in Mils, then I'd go with whichever you can get a better deal on. Just checked the low end Vortex Diamondback have wire reticles and the upper end Vortex Diamondback are etched. That particular design is pretty robust. I've read that they tend to be mushy. The BTR is good for the price but the Diamond back is better-- the glass is clearer at higher magnifications, the turrets are better, it's just a better piece of glass. They may be a fine range optic, but they will not be near as durable and with use, I would assume that adjustments would become less accurate down the road due to the budget construction.
Also compared to my PA 4-14x FFP, both the BTR and the Diamondback are better.
